A long time ago, Dr Suhaimi told me that Prof Tahir wanted to send her case report to Davidson’s. At first, I thought he was joking. When Prof Tahir promoted a new edition of Davidson’s Clinical Cases last week, I suddenly remembered what he told me. However, I didn’t get a chance to look into the book until today.
My friend told me that Prof Tahir wrote case no. 13. So, I went through the case. Yes, it is my mum. She is in there. From the history, physical examinations, investigation and managements, all are nicely written there.
As I read the case, at first I felt sad. The managements are so well covered, but in reality, we didn’t get that comprehensive treatment from the doctor. How nice if they could include us, the family member as a part of treatment…
On the other hand, I also felt happy because she is in there forever. I wish people do learn from her case. Not all patient presented with classical symptoms that we learned from book. Sometimes, they do present with atypical or complicated symptoms. I hope there will be no more doctor who would miss the diagnosis when they get a patient coming with such presentations. Miss a diagnosis of a malignancy is almost the same as you kill the patient. When you could not diagnose a patient, please refer the patient to other doctors. Don’t act like a hero. It is not only the patient, the family would suffer too.
